01 / Overview

The short version

Hidden Here uses location to show stories connected to the places around you. If you create an account, we also keep the information needed to provide account features such as saved stories, ratings, and listening history. We use limited product analytics and crash reporting to understand whether the app works as expected.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use precise location to build an advertising profile.

02 / Information we collect

What the app handles

Location information

When you grant permission, Hidden Here uses your device location to show nearby stories and select nearby story notifications. If you enable Background Discovery, the app may use location while it is not open. Coordinates may be sent to our service to calculate nearby results. You can also browse the map without sharing your current location.

Account information

If you create an account, we collect your email address, an internal account identifier, and the authentication information needed to keep you signed in. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are not visible to Hidden Here.

Activity and preferences

We may store saved stories, story ratings, listening and reading history, notification activity, selected categories, playback speed, and other app preferences. Some preferences and notification data are stored only on your device.

Analytics and diagnostics

We collect limited events such as screens viewed, stories opened, audio playback, saves, ratings, and notification interactions. These events may include internal story or account identifiers, but they do not include your email address or precise coordinates. Crash reports may include device, app version, and technical error information. Session replay is disabled.

Messages and website visits

If you contact us, we receive the information you include in your message. When you visit our website, Google Analytics may collect information about how you use it, such as pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser information, and referral source. Google Analytics may use cookies or similar technologies. Our website host may also process standard request information such as IP address, browser type, and request time. We do not use this information for targeted advertising.

04 / How information is shared

Services that help Hidden Here run

We share information only when needed to operate the service, comply with law, or protect people and the service. Our current service providers include Supabase for accounts and application data, PostHog for app product analytics, Google Analytics for website analytics, Sentry for crash reporting, and providers that support hosting, email, and content delivery.

These providers process information for us under their own security and privacy commitments. We may also disclose information if required by law, to investigate fraud or abuse, or as part of a business transfer. We do not share precise location with advertisers.

05 / Your choices

You stay in control

• Change location access at any time in iOS Settings. Choosing While Using limits location use to times when the app is open. Turning location off still lets you browse the map manually.
• Turn nearby alerts off in Hidden Here, or change notification permission in iOS Settings.
• Use your browser privacy settings or content-blocking tools to limit website analytics cookies.
• Sign out to end the account session on your device.
• Email us to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your account information. We may need to verify your identity first.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights. We will respond to valid requests as required by applicable law.

06 / Retention and security

Keeping only what is needed

We keep account and activity information while your account is active and as needed to provide the service. Support messages, security records, and backups may be kept for a reasonable period after they are no longer needed for day-to-day use. We may retain information when required for legal, fraud-prevention, or security purposes.

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, but no method of storage or transmission is completely secure.

07 / Children’s privacy

A general-audience service

Hidden Here is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and remove it where appropriate.

When this page changes

We may update this policy as Hidden Here changes. We will revise the date at the top of the page and provide additional notice when a change is significant.
